What did you like about the class?
I liked the subject and the relaxed nature of the class. We did hands on, lectures, and video learning; this was a good way to change up the routine and keep the class interesting.
What was your favorite activity or project?
I liked the IQ test.
What didn't you like about the class?
The Juniors, the fact that it was 1st period, the tests, and the Play-doh thing.
What do you think I should leave out next year?
The Juniors.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas for things I could do next year in AP Psych?
Do more social psychology. Also, it would be interesting to learn about weird, unconvential psychological theories. (Stuff that's not on the curriculum)
Do you have any suggestions or ideas for next semester in AP Econ?
No tests.

Just Say "No" to Sex (and drugs).
Parents, the media, and the school system constantly give adolescents the message to be abstinent, use protection, etc. The goal is to let the message sink in and have teens steer clear of sexual situations. Of course, saying "No" doesn't always work.
It's fairly easy to say "No" when one is not aroused, but our judgement is clouded when we are in a sexually arousing scenario. Sexual arousal focuses a person's wants on one thing and makes them ignore other factors. When we are aroused, our motivation to do certain things lies completely in stimulation.
In 2006, Dan Ariely and George Lowenstein did research on male college students' sexual preferences and activities. The results showed that men are more likely to perform sexual acts when they are aroused as opposed to not aroused. For example, arousal means that men are 25% less likely to use a condom.
The conclusions show that other wants, needs, and thoughts are completely superceeded by our sexual desires.
This idea holds true with the idea that we make worse decisions when we experience strong emotion. Everyone has shown poor judgement when they were extremely angry or happy, sexual arousal works the same way.

Week Four: You learn something new about yourself everyday!
NUMBER ONE:
Strength of the preferences %
Extraverted - 33
Intuitive - 25
Thinking - 38
Judging - 44
This quiz was really accurate. The questions were good because I could answer them with ease and confidence. I truly know myself now.
NUMBER TWO:
Attachment Anxiety: 69
Attachment Avoidance: 32
I liked this test a lot because it had a lot of vague questions, but it also had a good, specific answer range (1 - 7). It was easy for me to take this survey, and it opened my eyes up to a lot of relationship questions.
NUMBER THREE:
Your score on Overall Positive Affect was 56.00. The average score is 31.64.Your scores indicate that you are above average on Positive Affect when compared with others.Your score on overall Negative Affect was 42.00. The average score is 3.61.Your scores indicate that you are above average on Negative Affect when compared with others.Your score on Fear was 15.00. The average score is 48.13.Your scores indicate that you are below average on Fearfulness when compared with others.Your score on Hostility was 29.00. The average score is 20.77.Your scores indicate that you are above average on Hostility when compared with others.Your score on Guilt was 27.00. The average score is 15.39.Your scores indicate that you are below average on Joviality when compared with others.Your score on Surprise was 9.00. The average score is 12.95.Your scores indicate that you are below average on Surprise when compared with others.Your score on Satisfaction with Life was 27.00. Based on previous research, we classify you as being somewhat satisfied with your life overall.
This quiz was really silly. The results were vague, the questions were repetetive, and the survey had no variety or interesting information. I'm not satisfied at all with this quiz. I did appreciate the 'Indian' category in the race section.
NUMBER FOUR:
My EQ is 32.
The results were too broad. Some of the details applied to many, but many did not. I don't feel that this survey is credible insofar as it uses questions about the workplace to draw conclusions about a person's personal life. Also, there were too few questions.
NUMBER FIVE:
Combining your anxiety and avoidance scores, you fall into the preoccupied quadrant

The results from this exam were extremely vague. I wasn't sure what the results were supposed to mean, and I wasn't too impressed with the questions.
Week 3. After clicking the link, hillarity did not ensue.

Dear Mother,
College is really hard for me to deal with. I'm glad that you helped me pick my course scheduel, I wouldn't have been able to do it without you. Doing my homework is easy, so academics is not a problem. The living conditions are great! (Except for when my roommate leaves, and I'm alone.) It's just too hard for me to keep a balance between social life and academics. I can never decide what parties to go to. I can never decide what to write my essays about. I can never decide whether or not I should sleep around. I always go to my friends for help, they are such great people. They give me advice and accept me for who I am. One time, they made me run in front of a bus so that I could officialy be a part of the group.
I just want to be back home where people can always be there for me and help me make decisions. College sucks.
Love,
Your son,
Vikas.

Week 2: Studying Case Studies
Hannah, age 55, was in a major car accident 20 years ago during a cross country trip. Ever since, she has been unable to drive on major highways. Although she does drive, she goes to great length to travel only on back roads and scenic routes. She is able to go where she wants but it often takes her much longer to get there than it should.
____________________________________________________________________
According to the DSM-IV (http://allpsych.com/disorders/anxiety/index.html), Hannah has post traumatic stress disorder. The biggest indicator is that she exhibits a strong avoidance factor of things that remind her of a traumatic event (the car accident). Also, we can assume that she avoids highways because they will remind her of the accident.
_____________________________________________________________________
Psychological therapy is considered the best treatment for PTSD. Some anti-anxiety medications might help as well.
____________________________________________________________________
Because of a major car accident, Hannah has post-traumatic stress disorder. The fact that it has lasted for over 20 years is an indication that her anxiety is fairly severe. As a result of her trauma, Hannah is unable to drive on major roads, preferring to drive only on back roads. We should treat her primarily with pyschologically therapy which can be supplemented with medication.

Buzz Aldrin, Bipolarity, Alcoholism, Depression
Edwin Eugen Aldrin, Jr. (nicknamed Buzz) was born on January 20, 1930 in New Jersey. He is most famous for being one of the first humans to walk on the moon in 1969 with Neil Armstrong. Buzz Aldrin also flew over 60 combat missions in the Korean War. In his personal life, he has been married three times, has six children, and one grandchild.
When asked about his psychological health, Aldrin denied having bipolarity, instead calling it depression and alcoholism. Psychiatrists, however, still believe it to be bipolar disorder. Regardless, his emotional difficulties split up his family and led to a divorce. This break down made it hard for him to adjust to life, especially with his new celebrity status. As a result, he was often hospitalized for severe depression. Fortunately, Buzz Aldrin has been able to overcome his problems with therapy and by building a new family.
Personally, I feel that bipolarity is a grey area in psychology. I think it is too hard to determine whether or not someone is suffering from bipolar disorder or some other mental issue. Bipolar disorder, in my mind, is one of the least severe pyschological problems a person can have. Whatever the true nature of bipolar disorder is, however, does not stop a person from being a success. Clearly, we are able to overcome bipolarity and depression with therapy and other techniques.
